Youth Climbing Instructor

Starting: immediately
Work load: PT, 4-10 hours/week
Must have weekend afternoon and weekday evening availability
Pay-rate: $20/h

Climbing Instructors are responsible for supplying a safe and engaging atmosphere for students.

Responsibilities

  • Arriving in a timely manner and ready to interact positively with your group of students
  • Acting as a role model for the students in the program
  • Describing and demonstrating climbing techniques
  • Engaging with climbers and tailoring instruction to their needs
  • Encouraging students to participate in various climbing related activities and to adopt a mindset of growth and exploration
  • Patiently dealing with challenging behaviors and scenarios, while maintaining a mature, solution-oriented attitude
  • Being creative and focused on problem solving
  • Improving your performance by incorporating feedback from superiors and colleagues into your work routine
  • Giving feedback on the program’s strengths and weaknesses and identifying potential streamlining of processes, where appropriate

Requirements

  • At least 1 year climbing experience, knowledge and technical expertise
  • Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification (preferred, not required)
  • Experience in an instructional setting or with childcare
  • Availability to work weekday afternoons and evenings, weekend mornings and afternoons
  • Maintaining at least 1 class per week
  • Positive attitude

Programs Manager

Starting: mid-September
Work load: FT, starting at 32h
Pay-rate: $24-$29/hour DOE

Picture this: you step into your workplace, and someone cheers your name. Your students and their parents are climbing in their spare time and greet you enthusiastically. As you make your way to the staff room, you recognize most of the people in the gym and stop to chat with them. When you finally make it to the office, there’s a thank you card from a student. This is just the beginning of your day and a likely scenario for everyone working at HMB. Later, you’ll get to play-compete Instructors vs. Students during class, you’ll give feedback on instruction, draw from Instructors’ ideas on curriculum improvements, and you’ll work directly with the gym’s owners and leaders in all departments to make the educational projects in the Programming Department as impactful for everyone in this community as you & your team can.

Our next enthusiastic and dedicated Programs Manager will lead our team of Instructors and foster a fun and welcoming environment for programs of all ages. You’ll introduce the fundamentals of climbing, build a strong base, continue to develop skills and classes, invest in the progress of youth and adults, create a solid curriculum and ensure a highly-engaged HMB community experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Program Manager is directly involved and responsible for the management and execution of all programs including youth programs, day/summer camps, adult classes, clinics, school partnerships at HMB, group events. This is a leadership position. Responsibilities include program development, oversight, instruction, and the continued growth of the Programs Department. The Program Manager is responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling of the staff in their department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
Customer Experience

  • Oversee programs, classes, camps and group events
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with staff, participants, and parents
  • Request, adapt, and implement feedback from program participants
  • Actively facilitate, teach, and instruct all programs at HMB
  • Collaborate with marketing and operations to facilitate communication of objectives, needs, and concerns

Staff Development

  • Provide ongoing staff training and supervise and track its completion
  • Directly supervise all HMB classes and camps to ensure HMB’s programs meet expectations and reach their full potential
  • Recruit, interview, and hire Programs Staff
  • Regularly train and coach all Programs Staff on best practices, curriculum, and desired program outcomes
  • Hold regular 1-1s and performance reviews with instructors

Administrative

  • Create new, maintain and develop existing HMB programs
  • Work with other departments to help expand HMB programs
  • Serve as staff lead to support risk management in all programs
  • Additional tasks, as requested by Management

Qualifications & Preferred Experience

  • Must have a demonstrated passion for climbing and fitness on a personal basis
  • Minimum two years working in customer service and at least one year of management or supervisory experience in a climbing gym, fitness center, or camp program
  • Open availability to meet facility needs and special events as needed
  • Previous experience in hiring, training, and scheduling part-time staff
  • Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities with ease and flexibility
  • Strong organization skills and proficient with office programs and POS tools (Rock Gym Pro)
  • Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills. Must work well as part of a team

Yoga Instructor

Starting: immediately
Work load: PT, starting at 1.5h (one class/week)
Pay-rate: $36 per 1.5h work session consisting of 1h instruction and 30 min prep

Hiring a part-time Yoga Instructor for our family-owned bouldering gym in Greenwood, Seattle. This position is best suited for cheerful, outgoing, and dynamic individuals who enjoy the gym environment in all its aspects.

What’s the heart of this role? Our community! You’ll teach in a tight-knit community of climbers, many of whom understand climbing as “yoga on the vertical” for the mindfulness and physical presence it requires. Here at HMB, you’ll be able to guide the practice of fairly cohesive groups of students. The small studio caters mainly to our members, so you’ll get to know your audience, get their input directly, and have a significant impact on their wellbeing. Responsibilities

  • Maintain at least one permanent class on the weekly schedule;
  • Available to work evenings - early mornings and/or weekend is a bonus;
  • Lead exciting, challenging, alignment-based sequences that are inclusive and welcoming to attendees of all abilities;
  • Tailor classes to meet the needs of HMB’s climbing community;
  • Maintain the studio’s cleanliness, organize the studio at the end of each class, and lead by example instilling in students a culture of responsibility;
  • Notify the manager two weeks in advance of any class that must be missed, and find a sub for any such classes.

Requirements

  • RYT-200 Yoga Certification, or a minimum 1 year professional teaching experience
  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated
  • A desire to be part of our community and spend time at the gym, learning about and participating in our other programs
  • Added bonus, but not required: 1st Aid/CPR Certification and knowledge of climbing
